Apache plume is a rugged native shrub with a loose, airy form and fine-textured gray-green foliage. It produces small white flowers in early summer followed by feathery pink seed plumes that persist and create a soft, ornamental effect through late season. Its open structure and drought tolerance make it ideal for xeric landscapes, naturalized beds, and areas where a native, low-maintenance shrub is desired. It pairs well with grasses and other dryland species and provides subtle seasonal interest without looking overly formal.

Care Instructions

Apache plume thrives in full sun and sharply drained soils. It has very low water needs once established and performs best with deep, infrequent irrigation. Water regularly during the first growing season to establish roots. Pruning is minimal and typically limited to light shaping in early spring or removal of dead wood. Fall dieback cutback is not necessary. Winter protection is not required when planted in well-drained soil and full sun.
