Trumpet Vine

Campsis radicans

Cultivars: 'Madame Galen', 'Flava'

Trumpet vine is a vigorous flowering vine known for its bright orange to red trumpet-shaped flowers that attract hummingbirds throughout summer. It grows rapidly and creates dense coverage on fences, walls, and arbors. In the landscape it is often used for screening, wildlife plantings, or covering large structures where fast growth and bold color are desired. Its strong climbing habit makes it suitable for larger spaces where it can spread freely and provide seasonal impact.

Care Instructions

Trumpet vine thrives in full sun and well-drained soil. It has low to medium water needs once established and is very drought tolerantish tolerant. Water regularly during establishment, then reduce irrigation frequency. Pruning can be done in late winter or early spring to control size and encourage flowering. It blooms on new growth and tolerates hard pruning if needed. This plant can spread aggressively, so structural control and placement planning are important. Winter protection is generally not required in Rocky Mountain climates.
