Potentilla / Shrubby Cinquefoil

Dasiphora fruticosa (syn. Potentilla fruticosa)

Cultivars: 'Goldfinger', 'Abbotswood', 'Happy Face Pink'

Shrubby cinquefoil is a compact, long-blooming shrub valued for its reliability and extended flowering season. From late spring through summer, it produces small five-petaled flowers in shades of yellow, white, or soft pink. Its tidy, mounded habit makes it ideal for foundation beds, low borders, and mass plantings. It provides consistent color without becoming overgrown and performs well in water-wise landscapes.

Care Instructions

Potentilla performs best in full sun and well-drained soil. It has low water needs once established and tolerates drought conditions well. Water consistently during establishment, then reduce irrigation frequency. Pruning is typically light and done in early spring to shape and remove any winter-damaged stems. It does not require fall cutback. Winter protection is generally unnecessary in Rocky Mountain climates.
