This species thrives in full sun and well-drained soils and has low water needs once established. It is extremely drought tolerant and performs well in exposed, windy, and cold Rocky Mountain sites. Minimal pruning is required, usually limited to removing dead growth or lightly shaping edges. Winter protection is not necessary. Avoid overly wet soils, as poor drainage can cause decline. Once established, creeping juniper is one of the most low-maintenance evergreen groundcovers available.
