To determine the wind direction while spraying, look for visual cues around you.
A South West Wind can be a little trickier as for landmarks. The Uncompahgre National Forest Plateau runs to the South West of both Montrose and Delta. A wind coming from that area and going toward Paonia or the Black Canyon would be a South West wind. In this case, the wind is blowing from the South West, carrying your spray toward the North East.
When spraying during a light breeze, position yourself upwind of the target area, so the wind carries the spray in the intended direction and minimizes drift.
