Vacant Lot

At S&E Ward's Landscape Management, we take pride in our eco-friendly approach to weed control on vacant lots. We understand the importance of maintaining these areas while also considering the environment. Here's why our vacant lot weed spraying practices benefit both your community and the planet:

  1. Community Enhancement: Our weed control efforts on vacant lots contribute to the overall appearance and cleanliness of your community. Well-maintained vacant lots create a positive impression and foster a sense of pride among residents.
  2. Environmental Responsibility: We use precision equipment and eco-friendly herbicides to minimize the environmental impact while achieving effective weed control on vacant lots. This approach helps protect nearby ecosystems, including water sources and wildlife habitats.
  3. Safety and Usability: Clearing weeds from vacant lots enhances safety and usability. It reduces hiding spots for pests, minimizes fire hazards, and creates open spaces that can potentially serve as recreational areas or future development sites.
Teammate Instructions
VACANT LOT โ€” TEAMMATE INSTRUCTIONS WHAT THIS IS Herbicide application for general weed suppression on an unoccupied, undeveloped, or minimally improved lot. May include the entire lot surface or specific zones. UNIQUE CONSIDERATIONS - Vacant lots can be large โ€” accurate area measurement is essential for proper application rate. Do not estimate; measure or use GPS. - Vacant lots often have no irrigation, no landscape, and no turf โ€” the treatment objective is different from maintained properties. - Neighboring properties may be residential with maintained landscapes โ€” drift and runoff control at the property edges is critical. - Vacant lots may have standing water, drainage features, or seasonal wetland conditions โ€” assess before applying. - Municipal weed ordinances may apply โ€” some jurisdictions require vacant lots to be maintained below specific weed height thresholds. - Wildlife, nesting birds, and pollinator habitat may be present โ€” assess before treating and note any protected features. PRODUCT RESTRICTIONS - Non-selective herbicides with residual activity are standard for vacant lot bare-ground control. - Soil sterilant products may be appropriate for lots with no future planting planned โ€” confirm with supervisor and client before using. - If the lot borders residential landscape, use products with limited lateral movement at those edges. - For lots near agricultural land, confirm product label permits application adjacent to crop areas. ENVIRONMENTAL & LEGAL FLAGS - Vacant lots in municipalities may be subject to weed ordinance enforcement โ€” treatment may be legally required. - Standing water or seasonal drainage on the lot may constitute a wetland โ€” do not treat these areas without supervisor guidance. - Property boundary awareness is mandatory โ€” do not treat onto adjacent parcels. - Noxious weed presence must be noted โ€” Colorado law may require specific treatment. FIELD RULES โ€” DO - Measure or GPS the treatment area before mixing product. - Walk the perimeter and identify all adjacent land uses. - Assess for standing water, drainage, and wildlife presence. - Apply at label rate โ€” do not increase rate on vacant lots just because there are no desirable plants. - Note any noxious weed species present. FIELD RULES โ€” DO NOT - Do not treat standing water or drainage features without supervisor guidance. - Do not apply soil sterilants without supervisor and client approval. - Do not spray across property boundaries. - Do not apply in wind conditions that could carry product to adjacent residential properties. RECORD-KEEPING NOTES Document lot location, approximate area in square feet or acres, product and rate, adjacent land use on all sides, presence of standing water or drainage features, and any noxious weed species observed. Note municipal ordinance compliance if applicable.
