Yew

Yews are dense, evergreen shrubs often used for foundation plantings, hedges, and formal landscape structure. Taxus × media combines cold hardiness with a refined, dark green needle texture that holds color year-round. These plants can be pruned into clean hedges or allowed to grow naturally as soft, rounded shrubs. The needles are flat and deep green, creating a rich backdrop for flowering perennials and lighter-toned shrubs. Female plants may produce small red berry-like structures that add subtle seasonal interest. Cultivars vary in form, with ‘Densiformis’ forming a low, spreading mound and ‘Hicksii’ growing upright and columnar, making it useful for vertical accents or screening.
